A survey of Food Manufacturers by Food Processing magazine (January 2009 edition) found that: Food safety was ranked as the biggest priority and in order to improve levels of food safety, buying more/improved sanitation equipment was planned by 51% of respondents. What are your company's plans? January 22, 2009 January 12, 2009. Maple Leaf Foods has raised the bar for the standard of sanitation in Ready to Eat (RTE) food production facilities with the purchase of Rea UltraVapor dry steam equipment. The equipment will be used to augment their already rigorous sanitation practices to ensure an industry leading level of food safety and quality. Noting that “Listeria is everywhere in our environment” Michael McCain, Maple Leaf’s CEO told Peter Mansbridge of the CBC: “Our accountability and responsibility is to keep what is pervasive in the environment out of our food.” He also noted that Maple Leaf ”…can be better tomorrow without demeaning how good we were yesterday”. [Mansbridge ONE on ONE, January 10, 2009] UltraVapor equipment is extremely useful in cleaning and sanitizing harborage locations on and in processing equipment. It can even be used to clean and sanitize in one step within control cabinets, on water sensitive equipment and in other difficult to clean areas. Proven effective against E coli, Listeria, Salmonella and other pathogenic bacteria UltraVapor penetrates into nooks and crannies in equipment and easily breaks up tough biofilms assuring food safety and brand protection.
